Once the person gains obesity, he or she literally strives to get rid of the excess body mass by all possible manners. The very first step an obese person would take is controlling diets and increasing physical activities or exercises. This may not be sufficient to shred the excess body weight in all cases; at times it may develop serious conditions too. The next thing an obese would go for is the Weight Loss Pills. There are plenty of such pills being hyped on the internet websites and most of them are just good for nothing. Unless typically prescribed by your healthcare professional, you should not try them to avoid risk of side effects. They do make your wallet lighter by all means.

You would easily find quite a few over-the-counter Weight Loss Pills being sold at your local drug store or health food store or even at the online stores, all over the world. But before settling on any of them, it is recommended that you better educate yourself with the facts like most of them may not have been proved safe and effective and some may even be absolute unsafe too.

The drawbacks of Weight Loss Pills: Weight Loss Pills and dietary supplements are not focused to the similar exact standards as that of prescription drugs or medications sold over-the-counter. Hence they should be sold with restricted evidence of efficacy or safety. Most of the Weight Loss Pills contain the concoction of ingredients: some with over twenty herbs, botanicals, vitamins, minerals and many more accompaniments like caffeine or laxatives. Most surprisingly it is really not known that how these ingredients will virtually interact either individually or collectively. Hence, using them could indeed be the risky affair, expressly if you are already taking other prescription medications.

It is ideal to consult your doctor before venturing any such Weight Loss Pills.

Ephedra refers to some allied species of herbs that mainly grow in the deserts in China which is the botanical resource of alkaloids of Ephedrine, pseudo-ephedrine and other alkaloids. Ephedra also contains several other constituents that are used in formulating weight loss supplement and body building dietary supplementary products for improving energy levels. Ephedrine, the important ingredient of Ma Huang is the therapeutic form of Adrenergic Bronchodilators. It shrinks the congested mucous membranes by helping to dry out watery discharge to open up nasal passage accompanied by common colds and influenza. The therapeutic action of Ephedra is supported by the plant alkaloids like ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine. Such alkaloids stimulate the central nervous system by interacting with neurotransmitter receptors that dilate bronchial tubes, improve the blood pressure and heart rate. This in turn increases metabolism and stimulates weight loss. However, in the dietary supplements Ephedra is used along with caffeine, guarana and other ingredients which help to improve its effects.

ECA STACK

15 Apr 2011 Articles

The term ECA stands for Ephedrine – Caffeine – Aspirin. The  ECA Stack used in the weight loss treatment are basically because of its constituent called Ephedrine, which acts both as beta agonist as well as stimulating the discharge of Norepinephrine. Enhanced flow of Norepinephrine in the body then acts on white adipose tissue by raising cAMP levels. This in turn originates thermogenic effects, elevating body temperature and enhancing the metabolism levels in combination with the rest of the stack.

For normalizing the metabolism levels, anyway the negative feedback system of the body triggers in turn. This function is done through production of phosphodiesterase inside the cells and prostaglandins outside the cells both of which further lowers the cAMP levels in the cells.

Ephedrine has the appetite suppressing effect also. Nevertheless this effect just last for about a couple of weeks only is the stack is not cycled thereafter, as the body gets habituated to ephedrine to some extent. As per the available statistics, nearly 60% to 75% of the weight loss by using the ECA Stack comes from the appetite suppressing effects only and the balance from the thermo genesis.

Caffeine reduces the phosphodiesterase production inside the cells and hence slows down the cAMP breakdown. Caffeine also attaches with and aggressively reduces adenosine receptors in the brain, activating the release of epinephrine and promotes raising cAMP levels.

Aspirin reduces production of prostaglandin outside the cells which extensively delays the thermogenic effects and enhanced metabolism by supporting raised cAMP levels, in combination with caffeine

The ultimate element in the weight loss of the ECA Stack is that of the simple stimulant; the elevated epinephrine and norepineephrine levels result in the raised performance of the aerobic exercise and reduced exhaustion.

The recommended dosage for the ECA Stack is 2 to 3 times a day in the ratio of 1:10:10 or 1:10:15 for ephedrine: caffeine: aspirin. However, this ratio differs from users to users.

The Magic Behind Ephedrine

7 Apr 2011 Articles

Ephedrine is the derivative of some varieties of the herbal Ephedra. Some of the Ephedra has no alkaloids but especially the Asian genus of Ephedra known as Ephedra Sinica is rich with the highest ephedrine concentration. The alkaloid contents of Ephedra Sinica vary between 1% to 3% and 40% to 90% of the alkaloids are Ephedrine and the remnants made up of Pseudoephedrine, Norephedrine and Nor-Pseudoephedrine. Thus, so far the pharmacological effects of Ephedra Sinica are concerned; they are mostly because of its Ephedrine contents only. Ephedrine is the Sympathomimetic which effects directly or ultimately on the sympathetic nerves.

The bronchodilating effects of Ephedrine are due to the bronchial smooth muscle relaxation by direct stimulation of ß adrenergic receptors, which is effective nasal decongestant. Ephedrine is also widely used remedially for night-time involuntary urination, diabetic neuropathic edema, dysmenorrheal, narcolepsy myasthenia gravis. When Ephedrine is combined with caffeine, it works great for promoting thermo genesis, fat loss as well as muscle gain in some restricted experiments. Ephedrine is also metabolized to Phenylpropanolamine which is dependable for the central nervous system stimulating effects of the drug.

Remedial dosage for bronchodilator ranging from12.5 to 50 mg thrice daily, with maximum everyday dosage between 120mg and 150mg; due to its ultimate effect on the neurotransmitter stores. However, the extended usage of Ephedrine may result in tachyphylaxis. Also the higher dosage of Ephedrine may persuade toxic effects, that include minor vasoconstriction and cardiac stimulation resulting to raised blood pressure and higher heart rates. The adverse effects of which on the central nervous system may include nervousness, anxiety, tremor, weakness, irritability, vomiting, fevers, palpitations, tachycardia, hypertension, paranoid psychosis, respiratory depressions convulsions and comatose.

It is mandatory for all the OTC products prepared for bronchodilators as well as cold medications that contain Ephedrine, to list the concentration in each of its dosages, suggested dosages, probable side effects and warnings. However, till now the products meant for dietary supplements are not covered under this regulation.

Diet Supplement: EPHEDRINE

1 Apr 2011 Articles

Ephedrine is a kind of amphetamine compound that is commonly found in the naturally occurring herbal plant called Ephedra. Ephedrine contains the most significant properties of stimulating the nervous system and the heart of our body. Not only that, it also improves the blood pressure and the heart beats. It is also proved to be reducing appetite levels besides increasing the energy levels in the user of this wonder herb. During the US – FDA restriction on Ephedra also, ephedrine was not included and was banned to be widely used and sold in the open markets all over the world.

Usually most of the OTC (Over-the-counter) products prepared for the formulation of bronchodilators or cough expectorants or anti-asthmatic formulations are having synthetic form of ephedrine hydrochloride – better known as Ephedrine Hcl, base unlike most of the dietary supplements that have Ephedra of ephedrine alkaloids as their basic ingredients. The FDA had categorically banned the use of Ephedra in any types of dietary supplements but the preparations made with ephedrine was however, kept aside and was not covered under the restricted drug list anyway.

The most remarkable difference between the Ephedra and Ephedrine Hcl could be described as the Ephedrine Hcl formulation contain ‘Drug Facts’ on its label claims and boxes whereas Ephedra or Ephedrine alkaloid preparations contain ‘Supplementary Facts’ on its label claims and boxes hence only the latter products are affected by the US FDA’s regulatory prohibition on sale of Ephedra or Ephedrine dietary supplement formulations. It used to be sold as unprocessed botanical herb which is also known as Ma Huang or Chinese Ephedra. Its raw botanical form contains some alkaloids like: Ephedrine, Pseudoephedrine, Nonpseudoephedrine, Norephedrine, Methylephedrine or Methylpseudoephedrine.

The FDA has incorporated Ephedrine under The Final Monograph based on its research that it can be accepted as safe and effective if labeled in accordance with the monograph regulatory norms.

Does Muscle Weigh More Than Fat

22 Mar 2011 Articles

It’s true that the person working out on regular basis has more muscles but it does not mean that his muscles weigh more than fat. It’s not the fact, how can it be so? A pound of muscle would definitely weigh a pound only and similarly a pound of fat also weighs a pound only! Then why doubt that muscle weighs more than fat? Of course one basic difference is its volume, as muscle is denser, firmer and occupies lesser space as compared with fat which is the less dense substance and occupies more space. This simple definition should be enough to make you realize that indeed muscle does not weigh more than fat anyway. Based on the volumes of muscle and fat, one would of course be misguided if he is asked about its weight.

Though this is a tricky matter, it could easily be resolved if given a precise thought. If we go in more details to justify the doubt, better think of a pound of lead and a pound of cotton. Both will weigh a pound only when weighed, isn’t it? Now think of its volume, the lead is denser and needs lesser space whereas the equal quantum of cotton requires more space since it is less dense. Since the pound of muscles burns extra fat than a pound of fat and also at the rest by enhancing the lean muscle tissue mass we literally help the body burning more calories. So far the volume is concerned, mind that muscle weigh more than body fat if you are exercising resistance training.

Thus, to conclude let’s admit that the muscle never weighs more than the fats, not now not ever! It’s as simple as density versus weight – a mere scientific equation, dear! Let anybody think as he likes, you rest assured that muscles would never weigh more than fat.
